This is a Phillipson ‘Powr Pakt’ bamboo rod, an 8′ 3/2 5 wt. that came to me to be restored by a fellow who’s family owns the river front property where portions of ‘A River Runs Through It’ was filmed. This customer is a friend of a friend of a friend and found his way to me with this family heirloom to be restored.
The rod had been put away wet and deteriorated a lot of the finish and metal parts. Rod was completely stripped and original guides and wrapping thread was sourced in the USA.
Rod was re-wrapped and dipped in urethane to finish as you see it here. It was a real pleasure to work on the rod and in this instance, there was a partial trade for tooling and cash to complete the transaction.
The owner wanted to fish this rod again, on occasion, along the Madison river his family owned, remembering the times he did so as a youngster, with this same rod in the hands of his grandfather.
